2017 saw a big increase in explainer videos being produced. An explainer video is a short and concise video that shows the audience how a product is made or a complex service is delivered. Last year we produced a series of animated explainer videos for our clients to showcase their products, service and brand through info-graphics when live filming was not possible because of the complexity of the shoot. It’s far more effective and less time consuming for example to animate a journey of a parcel travelling around the world than it is to film it, (especially under tight deadlines) as we often work.
We believe that in 2018 the concept of explainer videos will continue to grow in popularity and more and more businesses will choose this style of video to promote a specific service.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY EXPLAINER VIDEO BE?
The simplest way of answering this question would be to ask who the video is aimed at. Who is your target audience, are they other businesses who might require your services? Or are they employees who require training?. When this question has been answered it will determine the length of your video. For example a training video designed to help a new recruit in your business to learn about a specific product might require a longer duration than a quick demonstration of your product in action designed to attract other busineses to buy your product. If the output of video will be on your website we have found that an online audience have a shorter attention span and therefore should last no longer than two minutes. The ideal length is around 60 seconds and it should grab the attention of the viewer from the outset.
In this example video below we demonstrate how an explainer video can give all the necessary information of a product in 60 seconds.
